PARM’s capacity development (CD) activities aim to improve stakeholders’ knowledge on agricultural risk and increase their management capacities to address the risk of all types. This document provides Guidelines on Agricultural Risk Management (ARM), and it is an excellent reference for participant trainees of ARM courses. It provides understanding on the key themes and concepts including, the definition of risk, different sources and types of risk, methods of risk assessment according to severity and probability of risk, holistic approach to risk, levels of responsibility, and an overview of risk management tools, strategies and M&E activities.
In particular, this document was developed to support PARM’s CD1 activity, which is a 2-day seminar aim at raising awareness and providing basic knowledge on ARM since 2014. CD1 targets mostly farmers and government officers. The overall material can be used for similar pieces of training at the country level, delivered for example by extension workers or practitioners in the field of agriculture.
