What is FARM-D?

The Forum for Agricultural Risk Management (FARM-D) is your Community of Practice (CoP) on agricultural risk management (ARM). It is a collaborative space for exchanges and updates on ARM. A space to share experiences, find experts, build partnerships and learn from others on #agrisk. All activities on FARM-D are collaborative efforts built on the strengths of its members.

FARM-D’s vision is to foster best practices and expertise in ARM to enhance resilience of agricultural systems across low- and middle-income countries. As a member of the community, you help foster learning, gain visibility and connect with ARM fellows from across the world. Not yet a member? Join now!

An improved experience for new opportunities on ARM

Since 2009, FARM-D serves an important role as the main interactive space bringing actors together to exchange knowledge and advocate best practices for agricultural ‎risk management (ARM) in developing countries. All activities in FARM-D are collaborative efforts built by practitioners for practitioners.

In late 2018, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank signed an agreement for the handover of FARM-D management. Since 2009, the Forum plays an important role as the main global interactive space bringing actors together to exchange knowledge and advocate best practices for ARM in developing countries. Through FARM-D, PARM will further strengthen its unique role of knowledge broker engaging the global community of practice by stimulating awareness of ARM approaches and sharing experiences, available risk management tools, and impacts of ARM interventions.

The Forum’s website has been revamped and offers new features such as interviews with specialists and officials as well as expertise location – through which practitioners can access a large directory of organizations and people engaged in ARM or related issues. Relaunched in April 2020, it already counts over 100 new members, over 100 organizations, thousands of resources and daily updates on webinars, lessons learned and news on agricultural risks and related matters. All activities in FARM-D are collaborative efforts built by practitioners for practitioners.

Members are encouraged to share stories, articles and lessons learned in the section Practitioners in Action. The FARM-D team aims to host its own webinars jointly with partners in addition to promote external webinars related to ARM. Moreover, the website maintains its vast repository of publications built over the years.

“This is a milestone for knowledge-sharing in agricultural risk management. With FARM-D, we aim to foster the flow of ideas, inspire learning, and bring together a network of practitioners who will advance the ARM agenda for development,” says Karima Cherif, Knowledge Management Officer at PARM.
