Agricultural and climate risk insurance can play a vital role in enabling farmers to plant again and recover after a shock such as drought or pests. Used effectively, as part of a holistic approach to agricultural risk management, insurance is a key tool for strengthening the resilience of small-scale producers.

The INSURED programme (Insurance for Rural Resilience and Economic Development) provides technical assistance to the IFAD portfolio, supporting projects and programmes to integrate climate risk insurance in their activities. INSURED is funded by Sida (the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency) and implemented by IFAD through PARM (the Platform for Agricultural Risk Management).

The IFAD podcast took a deep dive into the work of INSURED, speaking to insurance expert Emily Coleman about how to make insurance affordable and accessible to small producers and the need for capacity-building at all levels.
