PARM is conducting a Risk Assessment Study (RAS) in Madagascar using a value chain approach. Kicked off in February, the RAS will enable the quantification, prioritization of agricultural risks, identification of risk management tools, design of an investment programme on Agricultural Risk Management (ARM) and the support of national authorities in the implementation of risk management tools in Madagascar. The RAS is carried out following the PARM methodology defined in the practical tool: Assessing value chain risks to design agricultural risk management strategies. The Study is focusing on Maize and Peanut value chains as prioritized by the government for food and export crops respectively.

The preliminary results of the RAS will be presented on 5 May during a technical workshop that will take place in Antananarivo, back to back with a knowledge sharing and learning workshop on agricultural risks opening a dialogue with agricultural policy makers and other partners to identify key priorities for agricultural risk management in Madagascar.

To ensure the capacity building of local actors, PARM organized in November 2022 the first training cycle on ARM which aimed to raise awareness among stakeholders. The session welcomed over 40 participants from universities, training centers, farmers’ organisations and government entities.

The cycle 2 training will take place in from 5 to 8 June 2023 in Antananarivo. The workshop is a training of trainers (ToT) designed for the integration of ARM into university curricula and practices of the private sector. The training is intended for all training structures (universities, training centers, higher vocational schools, extension agents, producer organizations, private sector, etc.).
